When the fragment 'behind closed doors' is used in any sentence, it essentially refers to something that is kept away from the public eye, which immediately evokes a degree of curiosity mainly due to the element of secrecy.
All the songs in my upcoming EP 'Behind Closed Doors' due for release in March 2015 are based around situations and conversations drawn from personal experiences and beautifully enveloped around this theme.
Artwork for 'Behind Closed Doors' - Artwork by Ciaran Neilan From an intimate conversation that captures the final moments of a
relationship in the heart-throbbing ballad song titled 'The Time', to
'The Come Up' a groovy 90's feel R&B track. The eerie vibe in each
song, I believe, definitely sets a distinctive tone for the entire EP (Extended Play) in
comparison to R&B and where it is at the moment.
The second
layer to the EP and reason as to why the EP bears this title is due to
the fact that all the music was created and developed behind closed
doors.
Before it was taken to Alwyn Walker at Westland Studios for further refinement, all the music was born and worked on at my home studio and for the past 2 years using all the equipment I could get my hands on at the time.
Considering that this EP is my first formal introduction as an Artist to every listener out there, I wanted to make sure that it showcases my true passion for music and potential as a musician hence, eliminating any doubts that anyone would have regarding my versatility as an Artist, or question my commitment to the art.
Jason Zaman - The Come Up Therefore, all the songs whilst different, almost act as a hint of
what can be expected in the near future. At the same time, it is also a
testimony to the fact that it is never about what you have, but what you
can do with it to turn ideas into reality.
Lastly, 'Behind
Closed Doors' is not only an EP but a statement and representation of
all independent musicians and other aspirers out there who's talents are
being kept away from the public eye, but are still determined to chase
the dream nonetheless. Hence, the EP is a product of many other talented
people that I have actively involved within this project.
Ciaran
Neilan, a Dublin based creative designer designed the visually
mind-blowing artwork for the EP, Valerie Larkin, an exceptional
violinist, lent her skills by performing the strings on 'The Come Up' and recently the UCD Film Society worked on a video for 'The Time'.
There is much to be expected from this EP so be sure to stay tuned! Here's a teaser of my next single from the EP, 'The Ride'.
