Maisie Jane Andrews makes an impact with her vivid designs

There are designers whose work strikes you at first glance and one of those people is Maisie Jane Andrews. Her vibrant work was shown at The Clothes Show Live 2014 in Birmingham and she has also been to the London Graduate Fashion week.
While there, she had a lot of positive feedback for her highly original and confident designs in print and garment design.

Maisie's typical customer is 'someone a little alternative who wants to stand out' and she told OneVybe that she loves the work of Jeremy Scott, especially his A/W 2012 collection and the illustrative style of Niki Pilkington.
Maisie, originally from a little village in North West Wales, studied Fashion Apparel Design and Construction In Coleg Sir Gar, Carmarthen in Wales.
She told OneVybe: "I love everything quirky and cute, which comes through in my style! My illustrative style is quite feminine, quite a contrast to my vivid designs."

For her final collection, Maisie was inspired by the 90's club culture and the rave scene.
"I wanted to create an upbeat and quirky collection full of bright colours and and vibrant prints, I wanted it to be fun! Also, I love illustrating, and get most of my inspiration from doodling!
"I developed most of my illustrations from looking at 90's rave posters, from photos I had taken, and from drawing sequins, and then developed them into alternative placement prints.
"I also spent a lot of time projecting my illustrations onto toilles which I had made, to see how they worked in different scales."

Describing her work process, Maisie told OneVybe: "After coming up with a mood board, I would spend a day searching for fabric samples. I then use my samples to come up with designs incorporating the fabrics I had chosen, to see which works.
"For my degree collection, I chose sequinned, metallic-looking, and patent fabrics to portray the vibrancy of my theme. I also used a lot of silk jersey, as it had a slight 'shiny' look to it, which I hoped would make my prints appear more eye-catching."

Maisie's biggest stumbling block so far has been gaining confidence in her work and the designer credits her tutors for helping her overcome this.
"They have been a great source of motivation, they really pushed me and helped me throughout my course, I'm very thankful to them," she says.
For the future, Maisie would like to develop new illustrative based prints to be used in fashion garments coupled with designing and making garments to sell online.
