Tiza Designs targets the confident modern woman with exquisite collection

Fashion designer Tiza Chandwe, from Malawi, unveiled her latest collection at the Africa fashion Week London 2016 and she did not disappoint.
Her collection was fun yet simple and sophisticated.
She targets the modern woman and the simplicity with which she
incorporates the African twist will definitely appeal to her intended
customer.
The 21-year-old designer told OneVybe that she has been interested in fashion from a very young age. She applied to study fashion soon after completing high school, not something many people are brave enough to do.
Capetown College of Fashion Design accepted Tiza and she then began her three-year Fashion Design Diploma in February 2013, obtaining a Diploma in November 2015. She then took part in the 50th Showcase for the Capetown College of Fashion Design upon her graduation.
"Since then, I have been working on setting up my design company in Malawi. I am in the course of establishing this," she told OneVybe Magazine.
"During this time I saw an advert calling for designers to apply to take part in the Africa Fashion Week London 2016 to take place from 9th to 10th September, 2016. I was very interested and decided to apply."
When she was accepted, Tiza says she was both excited and nervous, as this would be her first major showcase as an emerging designer presenting her collection alongside experienced designers.
"On another hand, I figured this would afford me the chance to
interact with much more experienced designers and appreciate fashion
from all over Africa.
"I worked very hard and put together my collection and showcased on the 10th of September. The experience was worth all the hard work and pressure I had gone through putting my collection together."
"I draw my inspiration from my desire to design clothes for the modern
woman. My designs are exquisite clothing with a feminine twist," she
said.
"I want the modern woman to wear my clothing and not the clothing to wear the woman. I aim at adding African twists to my designs as was evidenced by my recent collection."
Tiza would like to grow Tiza Designs into both a local and International brand and there is no doubt that she is already well on her way in achieving that.
However, the journey is not without its difficulties. Tiza said: "Being from a small landlocked country, Malawi, the challenges I am currently facing are that sometimes it is difficult to get the fabrics and accessories that I would like to work with.
Tiza adds: "I have learnt to deal with this challenge by having an open mind to find alternatives." From the resounding round of applause at the end of her show at AFWL 2016, it appears the limitations she faces are far outweighed by Tiza's resourcefulness.
