There is an increased international interest in African prints and one fashion brand focusing on showcasing vibrant prints from the continent is JenniDezigns. The brand, established in 2015 by mother and daughter duo, Jenny and Samantha, incorporates the South African print, ShweShwe into their designs. The classic, vintage girls clothing styles provide bespoke and beautiful children's outfits.

Jenny, the designer, told OneVybe, "I have always loved to dress little girls in beautiful clothing which makes them feel like a princess. Over the years it became more and more difficult to find this clothing and I decided it was time to do something about it.

"About 18 months ago my daughter, Samantha, mentioned that she thought it was time to play and show these designs to the rest of the world. JenniDezigns was born."

Each design is given its very own African name and the current range is aimed at girls aged 2-7 years and includes practical every day clothes and party wear made to the highest quality to ensure comfort and durability for active children. At the moment, JenniDezigns does not provide a bespoke design service, but occasionally, they can use existing designs in sizes greater than 6-7 years.

Jenny's environment, including the vibrant African sunshine and vivid colours inspire her work. "The best thing is I get to play. Play with colour, fabric, textures and styles," she said.

"There is nothing quite as satisfying and thrilling as having your design come together perfectly and then having customers who enjoy wearing it. So exciting. It keeps me awake at night.

"My daughters and granddaughters inspire me. They are all such beautiful women. From the youngest to the oldest. All so full of courage. So full of life and the desire to give it their very best shot. Samantha has the knack of encouraging/challenging me to be and do so much more than I ever dreamed.

"Then there is my most amazing husband, Reuben! He encourages and supports me in ways I never thought I would need and always believes that I will succeed. Nothing I ask is ever too much for him. I can only be inspired."

Even though JenniDezigns is relatively new,  the business has gained prominence and grown quickly. Jenny told OneVybe that one of the highlights was the day Samantha phoned to tell her that they had received a big order from a very large South African retail outlet.

"Suddenly we were playing in a new space I had not expected to enter at such an early stage of our business," she said.

In the pipeline from JenniDezigns, are a boys' collection and possibly a toddler range (Ages 1-2 yrs). The brand is looking to grow both locally, in South Africa and internationally and events such as the AFW London 2016, Bubble London, Dot To Dot London and the Children's Fashion Trade shows in the New Year provide great platforms for that.
