It is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, which is the fourth Thursday of November, and is often regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
Major retailers offer discounts similar to those offered on Boxing Day sales in many Commonwealth countries.
Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days of the year and most recently, other countries like the UK and Australia have adopted it due to the presence of online giants like Amazon and Apple.
