Greenpop's Earth Fest a roaring success!
For the second year running, Greenpop has successfully hosted Earth Fest in Livingstone, Zambia.

Earth Fest is a music and sustainability festival that aims both to highlight indigenous southern African talent and to prove that you can have a good time without harming the environment.

This year, Greenpop welcomed performers, musicians, and DJs from Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa – as well as over 400 guests - to the Livingstone Guest Farm to party for trees in support of their Trees for Zambia Festival of Action.

Earth Fest: The Friday

On Friday 27 June, Greenpop hosted a night of traditional music and dancing at the Livingstone Guest Farm.

At 18:00 hours, a local troupe led a drumming workshop for 50 people attending the festival.

After a delicious dinner cooked by chefs from Saucisse Deli, Africa on a Plate, and Easy Eating, Greenpop opened up “The Stage that Thunders” to an open mic night.

Shortly thereafter, Greenpop welcomed Yes Rasta to the stage to perform a selection of reggae originals and covers.

Once they finished up, all in attendance partied the night away to contemporary and throwback tunes from DJ Wilson and DJ Blixem!

Earth Fest: The Saturday

While the festival gates officially opened at 15:00 hours, Greenpop and Earth Fest demonstrated their commitment to sustainability much earlier that day, opening the morning with a workshop on creating fuel-efficient rocket stoves.

From 15:00 hours, Greenpop welcomed guests to a market featuring curio stalls, food vendors, a barber shop, a secondhand clothing store, a photo booth Ilizwi Photo Club and activities ranging from laughing yoga to a traditional dance performance.

As the sun went down, Greenpop's Director of Trees, Benjamin Mibenge (Uncle Ben), hosted a ceremonial tree planting and then Lemonella opened the show with a smooth sunset mix, followed by another drumming workshop and delicious dinner.

The Treevolution Band then got the party started with a selection of tree-mendous covers and originals, followed by Zimbabwe's Chikenbus Band with an R&B / afro-funk set.

Shortly after, rising global star and Greenpop co-founder Jeremy Loops took the stage to play a few of his hits, followed by Cape Town sensation Grassy Spark.

After the bands finished at around 22:30 hours, DJs Danger Disko and DJ Claudous ft DJ Black Pepper took the stage, keeping the party going until the early hours.

Earth Fest and Greenpop Trees for Zambia:

Earth Fest isn't just a music festival – it's a party for trees. All proceeds from the event go towards Greenpop's tree-planting project Trees for Zambia: Festival of Action.

For the third year running, people have come from all over the world to Livingstone to plant trees, educate children, learn about environmental issues through a range of lectures and workshops, enjoy brilliant live music, and explore a beautiful corner of Africa at the mighty Victoria Falls!

So far this year, Greenpop has planted 1492 trees over 2 weeks, and plans to plant over 1000 more by the end of this week.
