Story Fridays 'Harvest' open for submissions
Published: 28 June 2015 | by Clare Reddaway
Story Fridays Goes Swimming was a "hugely successful event" (Bath Chronicle), "the atmosphere was electric and the captivating tales played beautifully to the intimate surroundings" (Theatre Bath).
We were all delighted! The stories were smashing, the performers were brilliant, the Pools were weird and intriguing, the sun shone and the ducks threw long shadows.
Story Fridays will be back on stage at Burdall's Yard in the autumn. However, just in case you thought you could hang up your short story hats for a while, we are running a couple of workshops:
June 13th from 2pm-5pm - 'Writing Short Stories For Performance'. Clare Reddaway will lead this workshop with June Wentland from Bath Libraries.
September 5th, 10.30-1pm - 'Harvest' - a story workshop looking at our September theme 'Harvest'.
All workshops cost £4.00 and will be held at Bath Central Library.
Get in touch with Clare Reddaway if you'd like to book a place. More information about the workshops: http://www.awordinyourear.org.uk/workshops/
Our next STORY FRIDAY is in September. The theme is HARVEST. Bountiful, plentiful, fruitful...or sparse, blighted, failed...
You might feel that we are no longer as close to harvests as our ancestors and that your imagination will need to travel back to your agricultural roots, but remember that not only crops are harvested....
SUBMISSION DETAILS:
We are looking for short stories or monologues, fact or fiction (but mainly fiction), maximum 2,000 words. 2,000 is a maximum though - we've had some lovely flash fiction in the past. No poetry please.
The event will be held on Friday 18th September 2015 at Burdall's Yard in Bath. Deadline for submissions is Monday 7th September.
PLEASE check that you are available to come along on the 18th September before you submit. We like the writers to be in the audience for these events.
Two wonderful professional actors, Olly Langdon and Caroline Garland of Kilter Theatre, are very happy to read your story if performance gives you the jitters.
Let Claire know in your email when you submit if you'd like someone else to read your piece.
Story Fridays are run by Clare Reddaway of A Word In Your Ear and Olly Langdon and Caroline Garland of Kilter Theatre.
This is an unpaid opportunity.
