Study Shows that Vaping Can Help You Quit Smoking
Cigarette smoking or tobacco smoking involves burning of tobacco then inhaling the smoke which is then absorbed into the bloodstream. However, smoking is known to be dangerous to your health and results in several health complications such as cancer, stroke, lung diseases or blood clots.

According to research, smoking causes two out of five deaths in the United States. Also, smoking is the number one cause of preventable deaths around the world, and an estimated 6 million people die annually due to smoking. Smoking begins with a single puff and with frequent repetitions it grows into an addiction caused by the nicotine.

Even with the advancement in the field of medicine which has resulted in the development of nicotine-aids and prescription drugs, quitting smoking can be quite tricky and requires a lot of dedication.

What the Numbers Say

The United States government cites that, more than 55 percent of smokers strive to quit smoking but only 7 percent out of the 55 succeed. Some medical scientists have proposed vaping as a way of assisting smokers to quit. Besides, most experts believe that, unlike tobacco cigarettes, vapor from e-cigarettes is less harmful since no research has proved the existence of cancer-causing agents in the vapor.

Nonetheless, not all medical scientists agree with the idea due to the long-term side-effects of vaping. Basically, vaping involves inhaling and exhaling vapor produced by vaping device such as an e-cigarette. Several surveys show that more than 10 million American adults use vaping devices with an estimated 5 million being below 35 years old.

Scientific Research and Statistics

A study published in a leading medical journal concluded that people who practice vaping as a way of quitting smoking have a double chance of succeeding unlike those using nicotine gums or patches.

In the new research, researchers took 900 smokers who were determined to quit smoking. The smokers were randomly given either e-cigarettes or nicotine replacements such as tablets, patches, and gums. After a year, the researchers found out that 18 percent of those using e-cigars had quit smoking whereas 9.9percent of those using nicotine replacements were smoke-free. These results meant that vaping is a more effective way of helping smokers to stop. Apart from that, it was concluded that unlike using expensive nicotine replacements, vaping was a cheaper option of helping tobacco smokers rehabilitate.

Final Verdict

The use of e-cigarettes as a treatment method for smoking is not widely accepted due to unknown side-effects that may occur in the long run. Therefore, vaping is considered the last option for helping a smoker who has tried and failed with FDA-approved products.

Abuse is one of the significant reasons why vaping is not approved to help smokers quit. Federal law forbids vaping and the sale of vaping devices to persons under the age of 18 years. In spite of that, government surveys prove that 1 in 5 teenagers practice vaping and the number raised by 78 percent in 2018.
